Liverpool have rewarded U23 captain Corey Whelan with a new contract.

The defender, who turns 20 on Sunday, was lead the Reds to top spot on the Premier League 2 table.

The Chester-born defender can play either centre back or right back.

He replaced Harry Wilson as the team's captain over the summer, and despite being born in Chester, has represented Ireland at youth level.
