Issue

In installations with exterior swing-style landing (hoistway) doors, some doors may have been installed incorrectly, creating hazardous gaps between the exterior swing-style landing (hoistway) door and the interior elevator car door. Children can become entrapped in the space and suffer serious injuries or death when the elevator is called to another floor.

As of February 25, 2022, the company has received no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately block children's access to the residential elevators. If the hazard exists, Savaria / Garaventa will send consumers space guards at no cost to the consumer. Support with measurement and installation is available from the company upon request.
