Matt Lauer Apologizes To Former Intern Over Twitter

Lauer Tweets Apology

Another day, another Matt Lauer story.

This has been a tough week for the "Today" co-host, whose shaky footing at the morning show was the subject of a lengthy piece in New York magazine. Deadline Hollywood reported on Wednesday that the network approached CNN host Anderson Cooper to replace Lauer on "Today" before his contract expires in 2014. And today, FTVLive posted a story on the apology Lauer tweeted to his former intern.

Local Fox reporter, Mark Zinni, retweeted a follower on Tuesday who quoted him saying that Lauer was "not so nice" when Zinni was an intern at the "Today" show in 1997 (the same year Lauer became co-host). Lauer, who is not the most frequent of tweeters, responded.

Zinni elaborated on his experience in an article on Fox 8 News' website. He wrote that he was "flattered" to know Lauer remembered him. Some audience members blamed Lauer for the messy departure of former co-host Ann Curry. Since she left the show last June, the NBC morning program has had trouble regaining its ratings dominance over ABC rival "Good Morning America."
