DStv adds Fox Crime channel

Cape Town – MultiChoice has signed a carriage agreement with Fox International Channels (FIC) to add Fox Crime TV to its DStv satellite pay-TV platform from July, bringing to seven the number of Fox TV channels available in South Africa.

Fox Crime, which focuses on crime, horror, investigative and forensic drama TV series is already seen in Mozambique and Angola.

MultiChoice is still to communicate the details of the channel itself, the DStv packages it will be available on and the exact launch date.

"As always we are working on bringing new Fox channels to the African market," Thandi Davis, Fox Africa director for broadcasting and sales told Channel24. "Our intention is to improve our Fox channel portfolio by launching more of the international channel brands that are part of the group globally and delivering the best content via channel brands to the continent," she said.

Competition

FIC Africa already runs the FX, Fox Retro, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, BabyTV and FOX channels in South Africa.

FOX, which for the past three years was available on On Digital Media's (ODM) TopTV satellite pay-TV platform, has been available to premium DStv subscribers since April.

FIC Africa also runs the Fox Crime, Fox Life, Fox Movies, Fox Sports, Nat Geo Adventure and Voyage channels elsewhere in Africa.

Fox Crime will pose competition to Crime & Investigation Network, ID: Investigation Discovery, CBS Reality, Universal Channel, Top Crime and Fox Retro, which are currently available across DStv and TopTV.

Fox Crime's schedule contains mostly library titles of older TV shows but the channel will be adding new first-run content for the African territory similar to the way in which both FOX and FX acquired some exclusive signature TV series for those channels the past two years like The Walking Dead, Falling Skies, Hell on Wheels, Da Vinci's Demons and Copper.

Some programming earmarked for FX in the US will for instance be channelled to Fox Crime in South Africa.
