The Group’s new Puracoat is a sustainable barrier protection for food packaging, developed in response to a growing problem of plastic waste.

Puracoat applied on site, offers food manufacturers an environmentally friendly, water based, barrier control as an effective option to conventional plastic, PE and other forms of barrier control.

Applied in line at the Sherwood Group’s premises in Nottingham, there are a range of options that can be tailored to individual customer requirements. Puracoat can reach the maximum grease resistant test of “Kit 12”, verified independently by Smithers Pira. Examples of Puracoat application include on the go food packaging, frozen food, bakery, confectionery and other direct food contact packaging.

Chris Waplington, UK packaging manager at The Sherwood Group, said: “The unique application to any suitable food grade board and the ability to perform at temperatures from domestic freezers up to 220C, including microwaveable options, reflects Puracoat’s flexible product credentials. Coupled with a completely biodegradable pedigree, ensures ease of product recycling for the end consumer.

“Linking to our internal award-winning Smartcentre Innovation team, we are confident that we can help design and enhance existing products, providing an environmentally competitive option to conventional plastic coated barrier controls saving time, resource and increasing speed to market for customer products.”
