Believe It Or Not – The Sun Stood Still At The Request Of A Man To Make For A Very Long Day

Sun and MoonJOSHUA 10

We’re moving on now to “Believe It Or Not – Unusual Stories Of The Bible” point number seven.

It’s just such an incredibly unusual thing that happened.

And it’s never happened again since.

We read about it starting in Joshua 10:12.

Notice…

“Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he (Joshua) said in the sight of Israel, ‘O sun, stand still at Gibeon, and O moon in the valley of Aijalon.’ So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, until the nation (of Israel) avenged themselves of their enemies.” (Joshua 10:12-13)

And one more verse…

“And there was no day like that before it or after it, when the Lord listened to the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.” (Joshua 10:14)

And let’s just stop right there.

The “Believe It Or Not – Unusual Stories Of The Bible” here (obviously) is – and the way I have it: The Sun Stood Still At The Request Of A Man To Make For A Very Long Day.”

THE MISSING DAY

You’ve probably heard that there’s a missing day in history.

Have you ever heard of that?

Scientists have determined by their calculation and their way of measuring time – and through calculus and algorithms, etc. – I don’t even know what algorithms are, but I thought it would sound good to make the point! – and whether or not they used calculus, too, I have no idea! – but they’ve figured it out.

There’s a missing day in history.

And yet I found it! I found it! I really did. You know where it is?

(Imagine me holding a Bible up right now and pointing to it.)

Here’s the missing day! Here’s the missing day! It’s in here (the Bible)!

It’s in Joshua 10:13!

Who said that science and Scripture don’t mix?

SO WHERE IS THE OTHER 40 MINUTES?

And actually, not wanting to get too technical, but the day here in Joshua 10:13 (if you really want to know!) – Joshua’s long day as it’s referred to – only accounts for 23 hours and 20 minutes of the day that’s missing that scientists say is lost.

The day here Joshua 10:13 where it’s recorded “the sun stood still, and the moon stopped” – some think so that Joshua and Israel would have enough light to finish off their enemies and so they couldn’t escape in the dark? – I’m the “some” here! – others believe it was so that they wouldn’t have to fight in the heat of the day which could have been between 105-120 degrees – and so if the sun is just stopped at the horizon (see picture above) prior to going down, we know that’s cooler than at any time when the sun’s high in the sky – but Joshua’s long day here in Joshua 10:14 only accounts for 23 hours and 20 minutes.

And there’s a day missing in history – 24 hours.

So where is the other 40 minutes?

Take a wild guess.

I found that, too!

(Pretend I’m holding up my Bible again pointing to it.)

Here’s the other 40 minutes! It’s in here, too!

There’s a miracle that takes place in Isaiah 38:8 and 2 Kings 20:11.

This is where the shadow reverses 10 steps which was the sign to confirm God’s promise to heal Hezekiah and that he wouldn’t die.

It took 20 minutes to go back ten steps and 20 more minutes to go forward 10 steps and back to its original position (if my memory serves me!).

This is the other missing 40 minutes in history!

It’s in the Bible!

Again, science and Scripture really do mix (meet).

Watch for “Believe It Or Not – God Was Put To Death As A Man On A Cross For Sinners” to come soon.
