Arsenal have made a shock move for Manchester United defender Phil Jones.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is scrambling to find a new defensive signing before next week's transfer deadline.

Wenger has turned to Jones after being quoted £50 million by Valencia for Shkodran Mustafi and £25 million for West Brom's Jonny Evans.

Arsenal have now sounded out United about a price for England international Jones.

However, any deal will depend on Jones forcing the move from his end as Jose Mourinho is reluctant to 'help' strengthen a direct rival.

Jones is tied to United until 2020 and also a confirmed target for Stoke City.
