Cannondale CAADX Cyclocross bicycles, model year 2013 through 2016

Product description

This recall involves model year 2013 through 2016 Cannondale CAADX Cyclocross bicycles equipped with disc brakes.

The bicycles were sold in a variety of colors and configurations. Consumers should inspect their bicycle to determine if it is affected by this recall by confirming:

  1. The bicycle has a prominent CAADX marking on the top tube or other location.
  2. The bicycle has disc brakes.
  3. The inside of the fork leg has a large "ULTRAX" marking.
  4. The cable connected to the front disc brake is completely outside the fork blade.

Later models, not subject to recall, have the cable connected to the front disc brake routed internally, inside the structure of the fork blade.

Hazard identified

The bicycle fork can fracture, which can allow the wheel to detach from the bicycle during use, posing a fall hazard to riders.

As of July 2, 2019, Cycling Sports Group Inc. has received 11 reports of incidents worldwide, with 7 reports of injuries, including concussions and a spinal injury and one fatality. Of these reported incidents, one occurred in Canada and five occurred in the United States.

Number sold

Approximately 1919 units of the affected product were sold in Canada and approximately 9700 were sold in the United States.

Time period sold

The affected products were sold from August 2012 to August 2017 in Canada.

What you should do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycle and take it to the nearest authorized Cannondale dealer for a free repair. Cannondale dealers will replace, free of cost, the bicycle's fork with a full carbon fiber replacement fork.
