Both hardline and reformist newspapers in Iran on Monday gave their views on the political crisis following last Friday's presidential elections in editorials and commentaries. Here is a selection of opinion.
JOMHURI-YE-ESLAMI - Hardline
The three candidates who are not announced as winners in the presidential election are prominent figures of the Islamic Revolution
High ranking officials should pay attention to the fact that figures like Mir Hossein Mousavi, Mehdi Karroubi and Mohsen Rezai have done a lot of valuable things for the country and they... should be kept for the system. Respecting their rights is an undeniable necessity.
QODS - Hardline
A massive turnout of people in the presidential election shows that Iranians are determined to build the country
The president-elect should also pay attentions to the plans of other candidates to use them in running of the country.
IRAN - Hardline
Today, when the great majority of the nation, heeding the call of the Supreme Leader [Ayatollah Ali Khamenei], have gone to the polling stations and elected their president for a second term with 24 million votes, it seems the opportunity has arrived for strict enforcement of law, without any special considerations, against those who are sacrificing national interests for factional objectives.
RESALAT - Conservative
Last night, fascist hooligans broke many shop windows and doors of many places in one specific part of Tehran, and they are taking revenge on people who voted massively for [Mahmoud] Ahmadinejad
All are completely free to vote for anyone they like but the minority group should not take revenge on the majority.
AFTAB-E YAZD - Reformist
Filtering the many web sites, the unprecedented controlling of newspapers before printing, and restricting the broadcasting of news of the three other candidates have even made Mohsen Rezai protest. It seems [President-elect] Ahmadinejad cannot remain indifferent to certain measures and restrictions inside the country. He knows that these restrictions are neither necessary nor useful... the only result... will be people's attempts to obtain news from media with an undoubted hostility to the discourse of the Revolution and the system.
E'TEMAD-E MELLI - Reformist
These 39 million people participated in the elections in a legal manner to determine their future
in this sense, the real winners are the people
we should be aware that the present government will not leave power easily
in the short term, we should use all legal and civil means to protest against the results of the elections and be aware that any effort to resort to illegal activities and violence will not spread our message but would force them to react. [Iran's deputy police chief] Gen Ahmad Radan gave the news of the arrest of at least 10 individuals from among the main organisers of the recent gatherings in Tehran after the presidential elections, and said some other individuals would also be arrested today and tomorrow. BBC Monitoring selects and translates news from radio, television, press, news agencies and the internet from 150 countries in more than 70 languages. It is based in Caversham, UK, and has several bureaux abroad.
