THIS IS A SPECIAL DISTRICTS POSITION ONLY

The San Bernardino County Special Districts Department's Water and Sanitation Division is seeking Maintenance Workers who, as extra help Public Service Employees (PSE), will assist in a variety of routine general maintenance tasks pertaining to the operation of a water distribution or wastewater collection system. Maintenance Workers are required to perform their duties in all weather conditions, and at any work site; work sites are located throughout the County, including high/low deserts, mountains, and valleys. Positions report to the office located in Victorville, CA.

These are extra-help, non-regular positions classified as Public Service Employees. These temporary positions will be employed for approximately 6 months and will average approximately 24 hours per week.  Successful candidates shall be considered at-will and probationary throughout the term of their employment.  All new employees must adhere to the provisions of the County Special Districts and Fire  Dress Code, which prohibits all visible tattoos.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Working Conditions: Applicants must be able to: perform heavy manual labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions; work in desert and mountainous areas, remote locations, and other locations as needed; have the ability to drive in all weather conditions; and work weekends and holidays, and respond to emergency calls as needed. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and have the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend over, and crawl for extended periods in the performance of job duties for this position.

Health and Physical: Persons seeking appointment to this class must meet the health and physical condition standards deemed necessary and proper for performance of the duties established by the San Bernardino County Special Districts Department.

Travel: Travel throughout the County is required. A valid CA driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance is required at time of appointment.

Desired Qualifications

The excellent candidate will possess the following:
License:
Possession of a valid CA Class A driver license.
Certification: Any CA State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) water certifications.
Experience: Six (6) months of maintenance experience in a water/wastewater facility.
Education: Six (6) semester units from an accredited college or university in the subjects of Environmental Science, Biology, Physics, or Water/Wastewater Technology.

Candidates with any combination of the above are encouraged to apply, as are candidates with the ability to perform heavy manual labor and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, along with the ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
