Luxury Paris hotel Le Lutetia closes for renovation

Paris's landmark luxury hotel Le Lutetia, whose guests included Pablo Picasso, Charles de Gaulle and James Joyce, closes April 21 for a three-year renovation following similar makeover moves by rivals. The seven-story Art Deco hotel built in 1910 follows in the footsteps of the Crillon, Ritz and Plaza Athenee which have all closed for extensive revamps.

Vesper Hotel wants to take boutique to a Dutch beach

Just a few weeks ago, over 50 world leaders descended on the Netherlands (the Hague, to be more precise) for the 2014 Nuclear Security Summit. The long list of world leaders included President Obama, who brought the beachside village of Noordwijk aan Zee to a near complete halt when he stayed the night at Huis ter Duin, a chique, but rather old-school, Grand Hotel right on the beachfront.
Upgrades for historic luxury hotels

After restoring some of its most historic hotels last year, including the Gritti Palace in Venice and the Hotel Maria Cristina in San Sebastian, Spain, the Luxury Collection from Starwood Hotels & Resorts announced a second round of upgrades, this time to two more historic properties, the Hotel Imperial in Vienna and the Excelsior Hotel Gallia in Milan, and two more-modern ones including Santa Marina Resort in Mykonos, Greece, and Grand Hills in Broumana, Lebanon.

Situated within the PortAventura resort, renderings of the 250-room hotel indicate that it will be daubed in classic Ferrari red and be made to resemble the grille of a distinctive Ferrari car.

Houston developer Giorgio Borlenghi is beginning work on the Hotel Granduca Austin, an Italian-styled luxury hostelry that will command some of the highest nightly rates in Texas.
Built on a hillside site in west Austin, the nine-story, 194-room boutique hotel is scheduled to be completed late next year.
Cambodian Red Cross building luxury hotel in Preach Vihear, Cambodia

The Cambodian Red Cross, which bills itself as the country's largest humanitarian organization, is building a six-story luxury hotel in Preah Vihear City, Cambodia.
The hotel is being built by the CRC's Phnom Penh and Preah Vihear branches. Bun Rany, wife of Prime Minister Hun Sen, has been president of the CRC since 1998.
Peter Picknelly Sr.'s dream of boutique hotel nearer to reality
