JERSEY CITY -- The "Naked Trump" statue that has stared down commuters heading toward the Holland Tunnel for the past five days has been stolen from his rooftop perch.
Created by Indecline, a group that has been described as anarchist, the life-size nude statue of the Republican presidential candidate appeared atop a Monmouth Street building owned by Mana Contemporary last week.
Monday morning, the statue was reported stolen by a 40-year-old man on behalf of Mana Contemporary. The man -- who asked police to have a "limited involvement" in the investigation -- said surveillance video shows a man climbing the fire escape to the building at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.
The suspect, described as being about 5-foot-10 with a tattoo on his upper arm, spent nearly four hours lowering the statue along the east side of the building with a rope and tackle set, according to the police report.
Police said the suspect left behind the equipment used to remove the Trump look-alike.
On Friday, two men were seen inspecting the fire escape along the side of the building, the report states. A call to Mana Contemporary was directed to their public relations firm, which could not immediately comment on the theft.
