RICHMOND, Va. (April 28, 2014) – College of Charleston women’s golf team, which received the CAA’s automatic bid, and UNCW senior Lori Beth Adams are headed to Tallahassee, Fla., to play in the NCAA East Regional hosted by Florida State University on May 8-10 at the South Wood Golf Club.

The Cougars won the CAA in their first year as a member of the league to earn their fifth all-time NCAA Regional berth next to 2006, 2007, 2009 and 2010. They were automatic qualifiers in 2006 and 2014 and received at-large bids the other three seasons.

Adams, who received the No. 1 individual bid for the East Regional, advances to the NCAA’s as an individual for the second straight season and becomes the first player in program history to be rewarded with an individual entry twice during her career. Adams had played her best golf of the season in recent weeks as she captured her first collegiate title with a four-shot victory at the UNCW Seahawks Classic in early April and finished tied for second at the CAA Women’s Golf Championship just over a week ago to earn All-Tournament Team honors at the event for the third consecutive season.

Adams enters the NCAA Regionals with a team-low 74.84 stroke average in 26 rounds played during the 2013-14 regular season. In nine events, the reigning Colonial Athletic Association Player-of-the-Year posted six top-20 results, including three top-10 finishes.

College of Charleston will be led by freshman Laura Fuenstueck, who recently won the 2014 CAA Women’s Golf Championship after carding a two-day score of 148 (72-76). She was joined by teammate Julia Neumann (79-75—154, T2nd) on the All-Tournament Team which will help the Cougars during the East Regional completion.

CofC will be joined in the highly-competitive 24-team regional field by No. 3-ranked Duke (ACC), No. 6 South Carolina (SEC), No. 7 Stanford (Pac-12), No. 13 Vanderbilt (SEC), No. 12 Pepperdine (WCC), No. 18 UCF (American), Virginia (ACC), No. 24 Auburn (SEC), NC State (ACC), No. 23 Florida State (ACC), No. 25 Kentucky (SEC), Tulane (C-USA), Louisville (American), Baylor (Big 12), East Tennessee State (Atlantic Sun), Georgia (SEC), Campbell (Big South), East Carolina (C-USA), Texas State (Sun Belt), Troy (Sun Belt), Murray State (Ohio Valley), Seton Hall (BIG EAST) and Alabama State (SWAC).

The top eight teams and two individuals not part of an advancing team from each of the three regional sites will qualify for the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship, scheduled to be played May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
