But furious tradies took to social media to challenge the data, claiming the figures failed to account for personal expenses and their shorter work-life expectancy.

'These figures are what companies charge their tradesman out at and not what the tradesman actually gets paid per hour,' one man wrote.

Another incensed tradie pointed out the 'hidden expenses of a self-employed electrical contractor', including 'insurance, tools, safety equipment and registration.'

'Are you trying to say this is what they charge? Because they have expensive tools, licences, transport, insurance they need to pay,' added another.

In a release provided to Daily Mail Australia, ServiceSeeking.com.au CEO Jeremy Levitt said the figures did not include the cost of labour but factored in other costs.

'Hourly rates are “gross” rates and aside from including the cost of labour, also cover the cost of running the business including insurance, tools, work vehicles, insurance and superannuation,' he said.
