Misfit Wearables, a company known for its aesthetically pleasing wearable, Shine, is collaborating with a Finnish sleep analysis company Beddit, according to a company statement. The move pairs Beddit’s thin, unobstrusive sleep monitor, which fits under a mattress, with Misfit’s tracking app for iOS and Android networks.

It presents a logical option for Misfit Wearable users who don’t necessarily want to wear their tracking device to bed, but want to gather insights on their sleep patterns. Beddit’s sleep monitor analyzes heart beat, respiration and movement and wirelessly transmits the data through Misfit’s app. It also provides a way for Beddit, which has targeted hospitals and sleep clinics, to have a stronger reach into the consumer market  — a shift that began last year.

Sonny Vu, CEO and founder of Misfit, explained the collaboration in a statement. “With Beddit, we’re making our sleep tracking functionality even more robust. Not only are we able to measure more, but even less is required of the user — a frictionless experience.”

The collaboration also offers another way for Misfit to set itself apart from other wearable companies with sleep analysis trackers such as Jawbone and Withings.

A report by Frost & Sullivan published earlier this year observed that the sleep diagnostic market is shifting to homes. That trend is surely helped by device makers like Beddit and its collaboration with Misfit, which shows there is a strong interest in making increasingly sophisticated sleep monitoring devices available to the consumer market.
