We wrote last week about Microsoft’s plans to spin off Nokia’s MixRadio as a standalone company, but wondered what would happen to its other streaming music service: Xbox Music. Comments by CEO Satya Nadella during Microsoft’s latest earnings call that it will “streamline our investments in music and video” didn’t seem to bode well. But Microsoft’s Windows Phone boss Joe Belfiore has tried to squash speculation that this means curtains for Xbox Music in a pair of tweets: “Don’t worry, no plan to drop Xbox Music/Video— my team builds these key scenarios for tablets, phones, PCs! And Xbox team does on console,” he wrote yesterday. “In fact, we have one of our bigger/stronger Xbox Music updates just a couple weeks away…you’re gonna like it. Perf, fixes and some features!” Assuming Xbox Music remains a going concern, it needs more improvements, so let’s see what that update delivers.
